DUAL SLALOM AND WINTER SERIES RULES
![]()
So You Know Dual Slalom Rules Do You ?
As the All England Championships are being held shortly. I thought
it would be prudent to go through some of the rules concerning dual slalom.
First of all it is a team race and the actions of one racer reflect on the
other team members. It is important that you complete the course, as points are only
awarded to teams that finish. So if a gate is missed or you fall over, restart the
course where you came out. Points awarded are 2 for a win 1 for finishing second and 0 if
you do not finish.
Teams are seeded using seed points of each racer to give a team total. The
lower the total seed points the easier the opposition.
The start will be controlled by lights. Red for stop, green for go, blue for
false start. The first racer in the team is the only person who can re start after a false
start. If any one else jumps the gun (or in this case green light) it is an automatic
disqualification and 0 pints. The starter will say ready and wait until the two racers are
still. Then the starter will say GO. False starts will be signaled by a whistle, only one
false start per team per round. The teams must be ready to re start a race within 7
minutes of completing a run, so always return to the start after completing a race. During
the race if a pole is knocked out and cannot be replaced in time, a racer must be prepared
to ski around a pole held in place by a gate judge.
Disqualification may result from the following. Late arrival in the start
gate. A second false start by the first racer in any round. A false start by any
subsequent racer. Incorrect passage of a gate. Unsporting Behavior. Obstructing an
opponent voluntarily or
involuntarily. ( So if you fall in the oppositions course, if possible get out of the way
and then continue the race to gain losers points.)
If a racer considers he/she has been obstructed, you must ski out at the
point of obstruction and report to the finish. Poles knocked into opposing teams course
can be constitute obstructing an opponent. Teams cannot protest against being obstructed
by poles from their own course. Only the team manager can make a protest. If you are in
the position of being obstructed, you have to weigh up the situation if its possible to
ski on for a win, then ski on, if you are behind or will be after negotiating the
obstruction then ski
out.

Raven Winter Series Rules OK
The Ravens winter series is held over 7 legs (weather permitting).
Normally on the last Wednesday of the month. To be eligible for prizes at the end of the
series 4 races have to be started and 2 finished. The race consists of 3 timed runs over
the same course 2 best times to count and starts at 7.15 p.m. Bib numbers are normally the
same for each racer through out the series. Results are published in the Raven News.
Prizes are awarded in ESC age categories at a Prize giving night at the end
of the series.
The results will be scored as seed points like ESC seed points. Seed points are an
average of the two best results of the racer. Brian Morris (Raven seeder) takes our best
seeded ESC racers seed point and can calculate a penalty point which can be applied to our
race results, then after the conversion we have a seed point for all our racers comparable
to ESC points. So we can all see how individuals are doing against racers through out the
country.
