The
Raven Ski Racing Club based at Sunderland, England, was formed in the
late 70’s by the Garfoot family to encourage and develop ski racing in
the North East of England.
The Club has been based at Silksworth artificial ski slope since
the slopes inception in the early 80’s. Although we train mainly on
plastic throughout the year, we race on plastic and snow,
The Club, over the past twenty years, has a long pedigree for
providing racers to the National Senior Team, National Junior
Team, English Schools Team and British Children's Team, as well as
producing plastic slope racers for England.
The Club meets every Wednesday night at 7 pm, for race training
at Silksworth Artificial Ski Slope, Silksworth, Sunderland.
We train racers of all ages, from 5 to 65, the only criteria is
that the trainee can ski down the plastic slope turning and under
control (snow plough or better) We do not teach people to ski, our four
coaches headed by Pierre Mahon (ESC Coach) train athletes to race.
We take an active part in winter alpine racing, (snow permitting)
in Scotland or Europe and plastic racing on the thriving summer Grand
Prix circuit. Both types of racing are under the same FIS rules, and
seed point positions are gained against the best in the world.
If you are interested in racing and can come along to Sunderland
you would be most welcome.
