Manic Depression Fellowship

Manic Depression Fellowship Wales

MDF Wales StaffThe Manic Depression Fellowship (MDF) is a user-led mental health charity which works to enable people affected by manic depression (bipolar disorder) to take control of their lives. The organisation began life in 1983 as the result of an advertisement in the personal column of a national newspaper. The Fellowship's expertise is rooted in the personal experience of our members, people with the diagnosis and the experiences of their families and friends.

MDF Wales is a regional office of national MDF and is situated in Newport, South Wales. One of our aims is to promote self-help. In Wales we have a growing network of self-help groups and work closely with other mental health organisations to represent the needs off those affected with mental health problems. We run conferences and regional meetings and are regularly consulted by health and medical professionals to give lectures and talks. Our newsletter 'Pendil' currently has a circulation of 5,000.

The MDF Wales Helpline is staffed by a team of experienced volunteers and usually provides the first contact people have with a fellow sufferer of manic depression or bipolar disorder. We have information on many aspects of manic depression and can provide a range of services for our members from legal and debt advice, through our 24-hour Legal Advice Line to self management training courses. Visit our other pages for more information on the services we can provide.
