Project: Advanced Braking System
The Client
Twiflex Ltd specialises in the design, manufacture and supply of Advanced Braking Technology for industrial applications.
The company is a major supplier of braking systems for escalators and conveyors for industrial and commercial projects throughout the UK and worldwide.
The Challenge
As part of its ongoing product development,
to reduce accidents and industrial injuries on escalators and conveyors, and satisfy increasingly stringent health and safety requirements, both domestically and internationally, Twiflex required a new servo- controlled braking system.
The new braking system has to cope with a wide variety of unpredictable loads and service conditions, while conforming to legislatively-defined standards of performance.
The Isis Solution
Isis is developing a non-linear servo that seeks optimum gain and is stable over the required range of loading.
A dedicated micro-processor is programmed to measure velocity in real time. This value is then fed to a novel digital servo-routine that seeks the required loop gain and stopping distance via controlling the hydraulic brakes.
The result is more flexible control over braking distances and decelerations that offers more predictable performance over a wide range of operating conditions.
