A substance that produces symptoms of a disease in a healthy person will promote healing in a patient showing the same symptoms. These substances can be derived from plants, minerals or animals and they are then diluted. The premise is that the more diluted, the more powerful the healing action. The diluted material is then absorbed by little sugar tablets. Although the bottles are marked with different labels, they all look the same (not like pharmaceutical products which have different shapes with coloured dots etc.) - don't muddle them! If they fall on the floor don't try to put them back.
Homoeopathy works by restoring balance in a patient's body - like "kick-starting" an engine - once its got that extra bit of help it needs, it can carry on happily on its own.
A real benefit is that the remedies work safely and gently by boosting the body's own healing mechanism without side effects, whereas with pharmaceutical products a patient often has to take a combination of drugs to offset some of these additional problems.
First aid treatment for a wide range of problems is well within the grasp of everyone with a little bit of guidance. Minor ailments and accidents can all be treated quickly and efficiently.

Imagine an extension of the childhood action of finding a dock leaf if you have fallen in a bunch of stinging nettles. The reaction is almost instinctive - experience has taught you from one generation to the next - you see the effect of the nettles and grab a leaf and start rubbing (it is also no coincidence that the dock leaf always grows near stinging nettles!). This is not going to be hard on the brain!
The only difference with homoeopathy is that you will not be grabbing the dock leaf as such, but a small sugar pill containing the dilution of the original substance.
This is a huge advantage on a boat as you are unlikely to be able to take heaps of vegetation on board.

With a bit of practice, prescribing the right remedy for a cut, bruise or high fever will become second nature.
