RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany — The first large-scale construction project
in the U.S. Air Forces in Europe’s transition from Rhein-Main Air Base to
Ramstein and Spangdahlem air bases has been completed. A building, which will house the 721st Air Mobility Operations Group, was
finished five weeks early, said Al Fraga, USAFE Rhein-Main Transition Program
Management Office project manager, in a news release. The 721st Air Mobility Operations Group monitors Air Mobility Command
operations, airfield operations and performs aircraft maintenance in Europe,
southwest Asia and Africa. The new building replaces several buildings south of the new freight
terminal. Those buildings, which had been occupied by the group, will be
demolished in the next six months to make room for an aircraft parking ramp. The completion of the facility will allow the construction of ramp five to
begin on time. It is one of several projects to be finalized before the Dec.
31, 2005, closure of Rhein-Main.
