A Notice of Proposed Development re these
major developments at MH was submitted to Harrogate Planning Department
on 12 and 19 December respectively.
The new radome is to be constructed
quite close to the two Space- Based Infra Red System radomes already up.
Also more security weld mesh fencing with 36
static CCTV cameras on 8 metre towers and 4
360 degree CCTV cameras on 8 meter towers,
patrol roads and erection of lambing shed!
White Young Green Environmental, Arndale
Court, Headingley, Leeds, LS6 2UJ have done a Landscape Proposal Report
and have come up with the predictable conclusion that the visual impact
of the perimeter fence would be 'inconsequential'. The new fence
runs along the side of the A59 Harrogate to Skipton road and one of
the four sides of the base. It means that the base will be
pretty much enclosed.
'Whilst there are no reported sightings of
badgers on the site, a badger survey has been carried out by the
Defence Estates and a recognised consultant John Drewitt on 6
November'.
Result - 'no indication of badgers or their
setts was found, although it may be possible that a badger is using a
fence gap to forage in a wood near Rushfield Farm').
A farm building will be demolished and this
may be a potential habitat for bats (although considered unlikely they
say). A bat survey will be undertaken at the earliest opportunity
during mid to late April 2004. 'In the unlikely event of bats
being present appropriate mitigation measures would be formulated and
agreed with English Nature prior to demolition'.
This is all apparently to be 'configured' in
October 2005.
