A federal parliamentary inquiry is to examine Australia's military
relationship
with the United States.
The committee will consider the role of the US in the Asia-Pacific region, the
ANZUS military treaty, and the value of intelligence sharing.
The chairman of the committee, Bruce Scott, says the inquiry will also examine
a proposal for Australia to join the United States missile defence program.
"Well we'll be looking at the implications for Australia's dialogue with
the
United States on missile defence," he said.
"We'll also be looking at development of space-based systems and the
impact
this will have on Australia's self-reliance."
