  • Bristol Cathedral - Founded in 1140 as an Augustian monastery.
  • Clifton Suspension Bridge & Visitors Centre Designed by IK Brunel at the age of 24 and completed in 1864. Designed for horse drawn and foot traffic it now carries millions of cars a year between Clifton and Leigh Woods.
  • St Mary Redcliffe Church - Queen Elizabeth 1st called it "the goodliest, fairest and most famous parish church in England". One of the finest examples of medieval architecture in England.
  • John Wesley's Chapel - Unspoilt Georgian chapel, oldest Methodist building in the world 1739.
  • The SS Great Britain - First propeller driven iron ship to cross the Atlantic - built by IK Brunel in 1843
  • The Matthew - Replica of John Cabot's 15th century ship which sailed from Bristol across the Atlantic to discover Newfoundland in 1497

  • Cycling - Bike hire £10 per day - some examples - 10 minute ride from the city centre and you're into hilly countryside. Lots of mountain biking single track and technical stuff or easy rides along canal tow paths, rivers or country lanes. Cycle down the scenic Avon Gorge for a spectacular view of the Clifton Suspension Bridge 245 feet above you. For the more adventurous there are the Mendip Hills and Forest of Dean. For competition try the Cheddar Challenge

  • Rock Climbing - Avon Gorge is literally on the edge of the city - Bristol Climbing Centre, Undercover Rock Ltd
    Probably the best plywood crag in the world!
  • Golf - Very informal - Casual 19 hole course. £5 for pitcher, putter, ball and course fee all in.
  • Hot Air Ballooning* - Bristol Balloons - Experience a bird's-eye view of Bristol and the surrounding countryside.
  • Canoeing* - On the River Wye just into Wales.
  • Surfing* - Only for the experienced, try surfing the Severn Bore. It can reach two metres in height and travel at 16 kph. (For great surfing head for Devon and Cornwall)
  • Windsurfing* - On Bristol's own freshwater lake.
  • Skate Boarding - Unofficial areas in the city centre - Fifty Fifty (Only skate boarding shop in the region)
