THE FIRST North West API (UK) CONFERENCE WORKING WITH ASTROLOGICAL PSYCHOLOGY

to be held on the Wirral on Saturday 5th October 2002 ...

This one day Conference will be of relevance and interest to all who use or are interested in astrological psychology and counselling as a tool for healing.
The Conference will be a friendly gathering, open to all! It will perhaps be of special interest and practical help to those students who wonder how and where they might use and apply the astrology they are learning with API (UK) after they've qualified.

Many of the sessions will be participatory in nature, so bring your own chart along (and an overhead transparency of your chart if you have it as well) as there will be plenty of opportunities to work with it!
Cost for the day: £25.00. Includes tea, coffee, soup and bread for lunch. If you want to bring your own picnic for lunch, please do so.

Annabel Burton, EHS Dip. Ast. - "Messenger of the Gods - the 21st Century Astrologer"
Annabel has set up an astrological website where, as well as dispensing the daily round of horoscopes, she displays general information about astrology, articles focussing on various aspects of astrological psychology and links to other astrological websites, including our own. She trained with API (UK) and is a member of the Association of Professional Astrologers. She promotes the work of API (UK) and the Huber Method on her website.

Geraldine G. Dayton, Dip. API - "Astrology and Health"
Geraldine is a graduate of API (UK) and has for many years been doing research into medical astrology and how the birth chart can give important clues and pointers about health. Geraldine sees clients and gives talks locally, and we are delighted that she is coming north to share some of her ideas on this very interesting topic with us.

Joyce Hopewell, Dip. API - "In the Astrologer's Chair"
Joyce is Principal of API (UK) and has extensive experience of teaching and working with groups and individuals, using astrological psychology, here in the UK and overseas. She has a regular one hour slot on BBC Radio Stoke every month, where she talks about astrology and does live chart readings on air. Bring along an overhead transparency of your chart as she will be offering to look at the charts of some of the Conference participants. Joyce is a member of the Association of Professional Astrologers.

Richard Llewellyn, Dip. API - "Past, Present & Future - working with the Nodal, Natal and House charts"
Richard founded API (UK) in 1983, and as Principal Emeritus is still very much involved in the activities of the School. He has facilitated many astrological psychology workshops and groups in many countries around the world, and last year was invited to give the prestigious Carter Memorial Lecture at the annual Conference of the Astrological Association of Great Britain. Richard is trained in Psychosynthesis as well as astrological psychology and counselling, and he will be outlining the value and importance of working with all 3 charts in astrological counselling sessions.

Dr. Maria Maw, Dip. API - "Astrology, Kinesiology & Flower Essences"
Maria is a graduate of API (UK) and will be demonstrating her unique blend of kinesiology and astrology in her presentation, and will be showing which flower essences might be beneficial for a wide range of ailments and health problems. Maria has extensive experience of working with these alternative therapies, and has successfully been combining her understanding of astrological psychology with health issues for some time. She has prepared and nationally marketed a range of flower essences, suitable for both adults and children.

Open forum/panel session chaired by Barbara Massey, Student Representative on API (UK) Council
Barbara is an API (UK) Registered Teacher and she was so enthusiasm about this new event that she has offered to host it at her home on the Wirral. She will be chairing our Open Forum session where you will be welcome to put questions to the Panel of Speakers who have contributed to the event. Barbara is trained in Hypnotherapy, NLP and Stress Management.

All this plus plenty of opportunities to network and make contact with like-minded people!

"FACE to FACE" 2002 - A FAMILY GATHERING

Students an tutors from all over the UK and further afield ( Germany and India) gathered at Buckland Hall in the Brecon Beacons from 7th-10th June for our annual residential "Face to Face" workshops. This year we ran 3 simultaneous workshops - Psychosynthesis and Astrology 1 and 2.

Meeting together as one large group at the start of the event, we shared names and got to know each other a little before moving into our own groups. The workshops were intensive but rewarding, with an experiential focus in Astrology 1, in-depth chart work in Astrology 2, and experiential exploration of our inner world in Psychosynthesis.

Warm sunny intervals between sudden showers allowed time for exploring Buckland Hall's extensive grounds. The bank of rhododendrons in full colourful bloom in the gardens was magnificent.

"It is always a pleasure to be part of a Huber School group, and I come away refreshed with enhanced knowledge" writes a student who was there. Louise and Michael Huber will be joining us next year - we hope you will too!

IRISH EYES WERE SMILING! by Joyce Hopewell

The Irish Astrological Association held their annual conference from 21st-23rd June, and I was invited to join them as a speaker.

The conference was held in Bellinter House, near Navan, Co. Meath, north of Dublin. Speakers included Jacob Schwartz and Liane Davies from the USA, as well as a balanced sprinkling of British and Irish astrologers.

The scope of topics on offer was broad and interesting. As well as my own contribution on the Huber Method ( I was honoured to be asked to give the opening and closing talks), there were sessions on Draconic, Uranian and Vedic astrology, and also AstroCartography.

Conference attendance was relatively small, but what a friendly bunch they all were! In the true spirit of what conferences should be about, there was genuine interest in the variety of different techniques shared, and an atmosphere of warm acceptance of different approaches. This was apparent on the last day of the conference when Liane Davies gave a talk entitled "Bushes and Shrubs", which was an exploration of the charts of the Bush family, and in particular that of the current President of the US, George W. Bush.

Liane had asked Jacob Schwartz to give a brief synopsis of Bush's chart using Draconic astrology, and asked me to do the same using the Huber Method. Her approach was to use Uranian astrology. As I was reading a chart of one of the delegates, I was only able to join her session at the end to present my thoughts on "Dubya's" chart, and I had not heard what either Liane or Jacob had said. However, I was given a round of applause for my brief analysis of Bush's chart, and it was interesting to learn that I had said very similar things to Jacob and Liane, but without the benefit of hearing what they had already said!

I'd not been to Ireland before and was hoping to see just a little of the countryside as well. I wasn't disappointed, as the Hill of Tara - seat of the Kings of Ireland and an impressive hillfort - was nearby. And yes, it rained a lot, so the countryside was lush and green, just as I'd expected it to be!

What a privilege it was to be invited to this pleasant and friendly gathering of astrologers, where the welcome was warm and genuine, and those Irish eyes really did smile!
