API ONLINE COMMUNITY HELP
VISITING THE COMMUNITY
Clicking on the 'API Online Community' button takes you to the community. When you arrive you will see a list of community discussions, as well as options to LOGIN and REGISTER.
Clicking on each community discussion will take you into the community, where you are also invited to CHAT. Read the list of messages posted by others and click on POST NEW TOPIC to submit your own message to the forum. To enter an online chat room, simply click CHAT from the top menu bar. A pop-up window will appear asking you to LOGIN or enter the chat room with a guest name. If you REGISTER with the community you have the additional advantage of keeping your own permanent chat room name, so you will easily be recognised by other members online when you next visit. Please note that you need not REGISTER if you wish. Registering makes things easier when you next visit the community, but it is not essential.
HOW TO REGISTER
By clicking REGISTER on the top menu bar you will be taken to a NEW USER SIGNUP page where you'll be requested to provide a LOGIN NAME and PASSWORD and some USER INFORMATION. You need only provide information required where an asterisk is marked, if you wish.
CHATTING ONLINE
Once you have entered a LOGIN name and password or entered a guest name you can enter the chat room by clicking CHAT NOW. The chat room will then open and you will be connected to a chat server. You will see a square with details of your entry into the chat room as well as messages from other people scrolling (if anyone is in the room). On the right hand side you will see a list of CHAT USERS - ie. names of other people in the room. At the bottom you'll see a MESSAGE BAR where you can type in a message to other people, formatting it in bold, italics and underline etc. To exit the chat room, simply close the pop-up windows in which it appears.
Back in the main community window, clicking the API Logo at the top takes you back to the API-UK website.
INTERNET BROWSER REQUIREMENTS
In order to use the community effectively you will need to use an updated Internet Browser. Internet Explorer 5 (or higher) or Netscape Communicator 4 (or higher) is recommended. Your Browser should have JAVA installed and if it doesn't you'll need an updated version. Please make sure that the setting for accepting 'cookies' is enabled in your Browser. You can set this in your Browser options/preferences.
