At Mod nan Eilean Siar 2001 in Stornoway, Coisir Lunnainn won the Margret Duncan competition once more. It was a great competition - particularly so because Anne MacDermid, who arranged the competition's prescribed piece, "Eilean Scalpaigh na Hearadh", conducted all the choirs in a massed choir - before the results were announced. A hundred-odd people singing together - a great mod moment.

The other real high was the folk group competition, which we also won. Andrew Robertson, Alan Munro, Sandy Jones, Carol Moore and Iseabail Mactaggart performed Ruith na Gaoithe and two piobaireachd songs together, Fraoch a Ronaidh and Tuireadh Beothail. They went down a storm both at the competition and at the evening concert.

And individually this year, we succeeded in our aim of bringing back more silverware: Andrew Robertson won both the Katie Stewart Memorial Trophy and the Bank of Scotland Cup. Next year we hope he'll bring back the silver pendant too (don't expect objectivity from this website!). Sandy Jones was taking part in her first mod - and it was some start: she won the Hilda Mary Campbell Trophy for singing with self-accompaniment on the clarsach and won third place in the Silver Pendant too. Iseabail Mactaggart was fourth in the Gold Medal. Murdoch Graham was second in the precenting a Psalm competition. Also competing and doing well were Carol Moore and Linn Phipps. And Gillian Ramchand, silver pendant holder, narrowly failed to get into the Traditional gold medal final. Next time, next time ....bring on Largs 2002!
